Asha Bhosle was an Indian playback singer best known for her work in Hindi cinema. She has sung over 10,000 songs across 800+ films and is known for her versatility across genres such as classical, ghazals, pop, and Western-style music. She began her singing career in the 1940s and rose to fame in the late 1950s through successful collaborations with music director O.P. Nayyar. She became one of the leading playback singers in Bollywood. In the 1970s, her partnership with R.D. Burman introduced a modern and youthful sound to Hindi film music. Later, she showcased her classical and poetic singing style in films like Umrao Jaan, earning critical acclaim and awards. Asha Bhosle remained active for decades, delivering hit songs in films such as Rangeela, Dil To Pagal Hai, and Taal, and also explored Indipop music. She is regarded as one of the most influential and versatile voices in Indian music history.
