
Biography
Milan Peschel (born January 17, 1968, in East Berlin) is a German actor and director. Peschel was born in East Berlin to a teacher and a fashion journalist, and he grew up in the city districts of Lichtenberg and Friedrichshain. From 1984 to 1986, he completed an apprenticeship as a theater carpenter at the German State Opera Berlin (Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin), subsequently working as a stage technician at the Volksbühne Berlin until 1991. Afterward, he studied at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts from 1991 to 1995. From 1997 to 2008, Peschel was a member of the ensemble at the Volksbühne Berlin, where he appeared in numerous productions directed by Frank Castorf and Dimiter Gotscheff. Between 2001 and 2003, he also performed as a guest artist at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. Since 2007, he has also worked as a director at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin and the Theater an der Parkaue. Furthermore, Peschel has participated as a voice actor in numerous radio drama productions, particularly under the direction of Paul Plamper. For his lead role as a father suffering from a brain tumor in the drama *Halt auf freier Strecke* (Stopped on Track)—directed by Andreas Dresen—Peschel received the 2011 Bavarian Film Prize and the 2012 German Film Prize. In 2021, he received another nomination for his supporting role in *Je suis Karl*. Peschel lives in Berlin. He is married and has a daughter and a son.
