William Hartnell

Biography

William Henry Hartnell was an English actor. He is best remembered for his portrayal of the first incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who from 1963 to 1966. Years earlier, he was associated with tough military roles, including in the television sitcom The Army Game (1957–1961) and the film Carry On Sergeant (1958), following several years in stage and comedy work. His legacy became overshadowed by the popularity and acclaim for his performance as the Doctor, who became one of the most popular and iconic characters in British television history.
