Over half the world's population lives in cities, a number that will rise to two thirds by 2040. Each city's infrastructure is under pressure to provide for an ever-increasing head count. This series looks at the ingenious feats of engineering that enable cities like New York, London and Paris to bring order to chaos. It is remarkable how well cities work, and how much we take it for granted.
